Ruth (/ ruːθ /; Hebrew: רוּת, Modern: Rūt, Tiberian: Rūṯ) is the person after whom the Book of Ruth is named. She was a Moabite woman who married an Israelite, Mahlon. Title and Author: The book is named after its central character, Ruth, a Moabite woman who becomes an ancestor of King David and, ultimately, of Jesus Christ. Some scholars attribute the authorship of Ruth to the prophet Samuel, although the text itself does not specify an author.
